Естафета Олімпійського вогню як форма трансляції гуманістичних ідеалів олімпізму: до 90-річчя започаткування

Abstract

The article provides a philosophical and humanistic interpretation of the Olympic torch relay as one of the key symbolic practices of the Olympic Movement. It examines the historical conditions surrounding the establishment of the relay in 1936 and traces the evolution of its semantic content over a ninety-year period. The study demonstrates that the Olympic torch relay fulfills not only a ceremonial role but also a distinct educational function, serving as a means of transmitting the humanistic values of Olympism – peace, solidarity, respect, intergenerational continuity, and intercultural dialogue. Particular attention is devoted to interpreting the relay within the framework of Olympic education as articulated by Pierre de Coubertin, emphasizing the integration of physical, moral, and cultural development. It is argued that in contemporary conditions the Olympic torch relay retains its potential as a relevant pedagogical and humanistic symbol on a global scale.
