The transformation of modern geographical education within the framework of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) reform requires a transition from traditional reproductive teaching methods to practical, competency-based and research-oriented approaches. Local history and tourism research serves as a fundamental educational tool for implementing the principle of local history (“from the known to the unknown”), transforming abstract geographical concepts into practical skills. The study uses a synthesis of geographical, pedagogical and tourism-oriented methodologies. It structures a three-stage model of organizing tourist forms of research activities of students: preparatory (theoretical) stage, field (tourism and research) stage and office (analytical and generalizing) stage. Particular attention is paid to the integration of modern digital tools, including geographic information systems (GIS), GPS navigation and mobile mapping software (e.g. OsmAnd, Locus Map, Google My Maps), alongside traditional tourism and local history methods. The article conceptualizes the structure of an inter-institutional partnership connecting secondary schools with local history museums, youth tourism centers and tourist information centers (TICs). This network transforms museum spaces into interactive geographical laboratories and involves students in the creation of real regional products. The practical utility of this approach is demonstrated using the model project “Geographic Passport of a Public Route”, which combines physical-geographic observations, eco-monitoring and socio-economic mapping for grades 6–9. The integration of regional and tourism research with school geography significantly increases student motivation, strengthens spatial and environmental competencies, and promotes the development of national and patriotic consciousness. Future research prospects include the development of school Web-GIS platforms, the adaptation of safety protocols for local fieldwork, and the creation of interdisciplinary STEM/STEAM learning modules.
