Kholodny Award, leading research fellow of Department of Phytohormonology of M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany, breathed her last. She was 83 years old. Liudmyla Ivanivna was born on February 24, 1936 to the Nekrasov family of Ivan Dmytrovych, working as a journalist at “News of Ukraine”, and Halyna Oleksandrivna. In 1958 she graduated from Kyiv State T. Shevchenko University, Biology and Soil Science faculty, majoring in “plant physiology”. Her scientific career started in 1957 at the department of physiology of plants at the Institute of Botany of AS of USSR, where she climbed up the career ladder from laboratory assistant to the head of the department. In 1979 L.I. Musatenko was appointed to the position of the head of the Department of plant physiology at the Institute of Botany of NAS of Ukraine. She launched large-scale research projects of endogenous phytohormones at early stages of the formation of organs and ripening, stratification and germination of seeds of various types. Simultaneously, she commissioned and worked on foreground research studies on the hormonal complex of fungi, sea and freshwater algae, various groups of vascular plants, thus contributing to the theory and practical implications concerning the origin and development of the hormonal system of regulation in the process of evolution of plants. The research findings are summarized in the monograph “Hormonal complex of plants and fungi” (2003). As a scientist Lyudmila Ivanivna has always followed in the footsteps of academician M.G. Kholodny. Together with academician K. M. Sytnyk she initiated and participated in the scientific readings commemorating M.G. Kholodny, celebrating anniversaries and starting a museum in his honour. Liudmyla Ivanivna authored 6 monographs, and over 500 research works. She set up a school of sciences and supervised 1 doctoral and 17 candidate’s thesis works.
