Урбанізаційні процеси в Тернопільській області як індикатор економічного розвитку регіону (1950-ті рр.)

Abstract

Мета дослідження – комплексний аналіз урбанізаційних процесів у Тернопільській області в 1950-х рр. як показника економічного розвитку регіону, впливу індустріалізації, адміністра- тивних змін та демографічних тенденцій на формування міської структури й соціально-економічного потенціалу області. Методологія дослідження. Для комплексного вивчення урбанізаційних процесів у Тернопільській області в 1950-х рр. застосовано комплекс історико-статистичних, демографічних та соціально-економічних методів аналізу. Основу дослідження становив аналіз архівних документів, зокрема матеріалів статистичних управлінь, рішень виконавчих органів влади, а також даних всесо- юзних переписів населення. Статистичний аналіз дав змогу простежити динаміку чисельності місь- кого населення, враховуючи природний і механічний приріст, а також вплив адміністративно-терито- ріальних змін на міську демографічну структуру. Особлива увага приділялася вивченню взаємозв’язків урбанізаційних процесів з економічним розвитком регіону через аналіз промислового розвитку, інвес- тицій у будівельну галузь та формування соціальної інфраструктури. Кількісні дані доповнювалися якісним аналізом, що передбачав інтерпретацію політичних й адміністративних рішень, які впливали на урбанізаційні тенденції. Такий комплексний підхід забезпечив цілісне розуміння процесів урбанізації як важливого індикатора економічного розвитку Тернопільської області. Наукова новизна. У статті комплексно проаналізовано взаємозв’язок між темпами зростання міського населення та економіч- ним розвитком регіону в контексті адміністративно-територіальних трансформацій і розширення промислової інфраструктури. Досліджено механізми формування міської соціальної інфраструктури, що виникали як відповідь на потреби робітничих колективів, зокрема в цукровій промисловості, що раніше залишалися поза увагою наукових праць. Ідентифіковано особливості статистичного обліку населення й робітничої сили, які впливали на офіційну динаміку чисельності населення та трудових ресурсів, що розширює розуміння соціально-економічних процесів у регіоні. Загалом, у роботі допов- нено уявлення про урбанізацію як складний соціально-економічний феномен, запропоновано підхід до оцінки регіонального розвитку на основі взаємодії демографічних й економічних чинників. Висновки. Урбанізаційні процеси в Тернопільській області в період 1950-х рр. були не лише демографічним яви- щем, а й важливим індикатором економічного розвитку регіону. Аналіз показав, що зростання чисель- ності міського населення тісно пов’язане з розвитком промисловості, зокрема з розширенням цукрової промисловості та інфраструктури обласного центру – Тернополя. Адміністративно-територіальні зміни, розширення меж міст і приєднання сільських населених пунктів значно вплинули на офіційну статистику чисельності населення, що варто враховувати під час оцінювання динаміки урбанізації. Окрім того, виявлено певні особливості статистичного обліку, зокрема подвійний облік робітників, які могли впливати на формування офіційних показників. Зростання міського населення стимулювало розвиток соціальної інфраструктури, що створювало сприятливі умови для подальшого економічного зростання й підвищення рівня життя в регіоні. Водночас темпи урбанізації різнилися залежно від масштабу міст і ступеня їхньої економічної активності.

The aim of the study is a comprehensive analysis of urbanization processes in the Ternopil region during the 1950s as an indicator of the region’s economic development, focusing on the impact of industrialization, administrative changes, and demographic trends on the formation of the urban structure and the socio-economic potential of the region. Research Methodology. To comprehensively study urbanization processes in the Ternopil region in the 1950s, a combination of historical-statistical, demographic, and socio-economic analytical methods was applied. The core of the research was the analysis of archival documents, including materials from statistical offices, decisions of executive authorities, as well as data from all-Union population censuses. Statistical analysis made it possible to track the dynamics of urban population numbers, considering natural and mechanical growth as well as the influence of administrative-territorial changes on the urban demographic structure. Particular attention was given to examining the interrelation of urbanization processes with the region’s economic development through analysis of industrial growth, investments in the construction sector, and the formation of social infrastructure. Quantitative data were supplemented by qualitative analysis, including interpretation of political and administrative decisions affecting urbanization trends. This comprehensive approach ensured an integrated understanding of urbanization processes as a significant indicator of the economic development of the Ternopil region. Scientific Novelty. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between urban population growth rates and the region’s economic development in the context of administrative-territorial transformations and expansion of industrial infrastructure. The study investigates mechanisms of urban social infrastructure formation that emerged in response to the needs of labor collectives, particularly in the sugar industry, which were previously underexplored in academic research. It identifies peculiarities of population and labor force statistical accounting that influenced official demographic and workforce dynamics, thereby expanding understanding of socio-economic processes in the region. Overall, the work supplements existing views on urbanization as a complex socio-economic phenomenon and proposes an approach to assessing regional development based on the interaction of demographic and economic factors. Conclusions. Urbanization processes in the Ternopil region during the 1950s were not only a demographic phenomenon but also an important indicator of the region’s economic development. The analysis showed that the growth of the urban population was closely linked to industrial development, especially the expansion of the sugar industry and the infrastructure of the regional center, Ternopil. Administrative-territorial changes, expansion of city boundaries, and annexation of rural settlements significantly influenced official population statistics and should be considered when evaluating urbanization dynamics. Additionally, certain peculiarities of statistical accounting were revealed, including double counting of workers, which could affect the formation of official indicators. The growth of the urban population stimulated the development of social infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for further economic growth and improving living standards in the region. At the same time, the pace of urbanization varied depending on the size of the cities and the degree of their economic activity.
