The article is devoted to the study of the specifics of social work with internally displaced elderly people using the example of organizational models used in non-governmental public organizations. The article aims to study promising models of social support for forcibly displaced elderly people in the context of volunteer activities as a possible tool for their soft adaptation to new living conditions. The authors employed the case study method to analyze the experience of leading national and international non-governmental organizations. The study is based on an analysis of reports from the Charitable Foundation “Caritas-Kyiv”, ”The Charitable Foundation “Zhytelub” (Enjoying Life), the International Charitable Foundation “Jewish Hesed Bnei Azriel” and HelpAge International. The article highlights the key vectors of activity within the non-governmental sector, with particular attention paid to resource-humanitarian, psychosocial, service-oriented, volunteer, and advocacy components. Drawing on the results of the analysis, the authors propose a tentative typology of social work models. This typology reveals a tendency toward service-oriented, paternalistic, or activation-oriented approaches. As a key finding, the authors substantiate the effectiveness of the “social activation” model, which relies on the direct involvement of older people themselves in volunteer initiatives, thereby fully implementing the “peer-to-peer” principle. The authors suggest that the proposed principle can effectively facilitate the gradual transition of older persons from a position of passive recipients to active participants in social life. Finally, the article presents conclusions regarding the necessity of developing internal volunteer resources as an effective mechanism for maintaining social stability within communities. |
